Ostrobrzeg history.
The village of Kadyny was founded by the Knights of the Cross in the 13th century. The first recorded owner of these lands was Hans von Baysen, a Prussian nobleman living in the 15th century. Kadyny became the property of the Schlieben family in the 17th century. They built their palace here and chose Scharfenberg (current Ostrobrzeg) for their village house. After several owners, at the end of the 19th century, the whole Kadyny property was taken over by Wilhelm II, the Emperor of Germany. Owing to his endeavours, Kadyny began to develop greatly, becoming a large village in which the palace was the Emperor’s summer house among vast forests and with his beloved horses. Scharfenberg became the Emperor’s hunting palace. At that time, Scharfenberg changed its name to its Polish counterpart – Ostra Góra and now it is called Ostrobrzeg.
The property of Ostrobrzeg was separated from Kadyny estate in 1989 when its new Scandinavian owners noticed its exceptional potential for race horse breeding.
